It is estimated that within the last 45 years, about 3.3 million hectares of Canadian forests were converted to non-forest uses.

Carolinian Forests (located in South Western Ontario) have witnessed a significant decline in coverage accompanied by changes in forest composition and structure. Unfortunately, as documented by Carolinian Canada, no more than 11% of these forests remain across the landscape.
